Tom Crick, Director of Coaching and Athlete Development at Athletics NI

EDAC Club rooms, Tuesday 20th October 2015 from 7:30-9:00pm

Please see below your invitation to this presentation. I think it will be a very informative night and will be of great interest to coaches, parents, volunteers and members.  Please let me know if you’re coming.

Dear Volunteer,

As you may have heard, on 1st July 2015 I took on the challenge of Director of Coaching and Athlete Development at Athletics NI. My role focuses on helping athletes to reach their potential by ensuring a transparent pathway exists from grassroots to high performance. A key part of this will be directly supporting clubs and coaches to help them meet their athletes’ needs.

With this in mind, I am very interested in hearing from clubs, officials, volunteers, coaches and athletes about what they think needs to happen to improve Athletics in Northern Ireland. I am particularly interested in hearing about:

  • The barriers you face while operating in Northern Ireland
  • The key areas you would like more support and resources to be focused on
  • The key topics you feel you need more advice on such as event technical knowledge, nutrition, strength and conditioning, annual planning, example sessions for young athletes etc.

You are cordially invited to attend a meeting to discuss these matters at East Down AC Club House (Gates prior to Downpatrick Farm & Garden Supplies Ltd), Ballydugan Industrial Estate, Ballydugan Road, Downpatrick, BT30 6DL on Tuesday 20th October 2015 from 7:30-9:00pm.

I hope very much that yourselves or someone from your club will be able to make it. Please RSVP by email to myself at tcrick@athleticsni.org.

Best regards,

Tom Crick

OWEN WALKS IT

Owen Edwards went to Antrim Forum two weeks ago to tackle his favourite1500 metres in the NI and Ulster Under 16 Boys Championships and literally walked away with a Gold medal. Working on the old adage that you have to walk before you can run Owen reckoned he could use the 3000 metres Walk as a warm up for his main event – and duly won! He duly qualified for the All Ireland Championships in Tullamore next weekend and it will be interesting to see how he performs there as race walking is much more popular in the South and competition likely to be much stiffer. Sunday morning social gathering with Ballydrain Harriers

Ballydrain Harriers are planning to hold a Sunday morning social gathering with a run followed by barbecue and refreshments for all of our members. They hope to hold it in Delamont Country Park on Sunday 7th June and would like to invite East Down AC members to join them.
The provisional idea is to take our gazebo, meeting about 10am, organise running groups based on pace and planned distance and follow up with bacon butties etc. This of course will all be weather permitting with the option to postpone at short notice.

Can you please reply to me if you intend to go to Delamont as we can let Ballydrain know the approximate numbers attending?

Regards
