FINAL ROUND OF McGRADY FINANCIAL SERVICES CROSS COUNTRY SERIES

While many of the senior members were enjoying their day out by the sea at Ballyhornan last Sunday, 45 of East Down’s juniors were competing with considerable success in the 5th and final round of the McGrady Financial Services Cross Country Series in a sun drenched Tollymore Forest Park.

Notable performances were delivered by P4 boys Leo Madine 2nd Kieran Trainor 3rd Alexander Robinson 4th while the P4 Girls, in which 10 East Down girls took part, were far from outdone when Jodi Foster 2nd and Eva Shields 4th continued the good work.

BEN DEARG COAST 10K
After last year’s near apocalyptic weather for the Ben Dearg Coast 10K, the contrast this year was truly remarkable. kilclief 10k 003Warm sunshine ( remember that?) and almost windless conditions encouraged a record number of athletes from many parts of Northern Ireland and beyond to the shores of Strangford Lough and Ballyhornan to enjoy what last weekend truly lived up to its billing as the most picturesque in the county.

CIARAN IN BEST EVER FORM

David is quickly returning to competitive level after several years pursuing a mountain and ultra running path and as he hinted at Stormont on Saturday when he came 2nd in the cross country League fixture he is not far away. He will be a serious contender if he makes the start line for Jimmy’s Ten on 13 March. Continue reading

SCHOOL DAYS WERE NEVER LIKE THESE

In the absence of a Seniors event this weekend, apart from Michael McKeown’s participation in the Dune Half Marathon on Sunday, a very respectable 1.36.03 for 87th place in a field of over 500, it is surely not before time that priority be given to the performances of many of our Junior runners, who are the future after all.

ULSTER SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
On Wednesday past the Milk It Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships took place at Mallusk and provided opportunities for a host of East Down juniors to show their mettle against the cream of Ulster. And commendably well they did too. Continue reading
