East Down 4x100 relay team
anyone in the club remember a 4 man relay team which represented East Down at the Ulster Championships in the Antrim Forum back in the late 80s.. this team punched above their weight running 2nd and 3rd at most meets to the athletic powerhouses (back then) of Striders & Ballymena n Antrim. Is there any reference to this team in the club history?? wondering if they still hold the club record for 4x100 relay??

Hi Gerard, I'm afraid I can't help on the information provided - it doesn't mean anything to me. Did you know anyone on the team? Was it at Senior level?

it was made up of myself, brian kelly, simon rotherham and philip brown.. we were also the 4 for st.columbas sec in portaferry.. it was likely u15 age. i was just wondering if there were any club records to show times etc and if they still stood.. you would be talking around 1989-91..

Thanks for the latest update - I remember your name now and that of Simon Rotherham and Philip Brown - will check through some old papers when I'm next in the attic, but I'm not sure how much I got after Jimmy Murray died. Will be in touch soon. Are you or any of the others you mention involved in athletics in any way now? This is the 25th Anniversary year of the founding of East Down AC and we're having a Gala Dinner on 29 September in La Mon House Hotel - you might like to be there?

just having a wee nosey through the site and its a great job. I cant believe the club is celebrating its 25th anniversary next year. Time runs fast!

Belfast Marathon
A big thankyou to all east down supporters & marshalls yesterday in Belfast. It was great to see so many on the course and at entrance to park at a time when the going gets tough. I think 7 of us ran the first 15 together which was good. To finish yesterday in the heat was an acheivement for all concerned and a few pb's. Well done

injury has forced me out of belfast. should b out for 4-6 wks. i no its a bit early but just wnt 2 wish evry 1 the best 4 b,fast & edinbrugh i no every1 has trianed really hard. goodluck every1!!!
