Duathlon and All Ireland Even age groups 15

IMG_8259After the intensity of last weekend’s adventures in Tollymore and elsewhere, perhaps it was inevitable that this week should see a less hectic schedule for East Down’s athletes, with the most effort being devoted to a bout of wound licking and watching others suffer. Certainly there was no East Down representation in Bangor on Saturday for the North Down Festival of Cross Country Relays and just three made the trip to Gosford for the latest in the Run Forest Run series of 10Ks. Niamh Kellett 41.34 was an excellent 3rd placed Lady while Michael McKeown and Clare Carson finished in 45.34 and 53.22 respectively. Continue reading

EDAC Circuit Training Classes

Circuit TrainingEvery Friday from 6:30 pm to 7:30pm we deliver a Circuit Training classes in the club rooms. Ashley Wade from Wade Training will be taking the class, entrance fee £5. Part of the charge will be allocated to buying new circuit training equipment for the club.

As a newbie to circuit training I can thoroughly recommend the classes, so can my glutes and abs. I would also like to say that Ashley delivers the classes for all fitness abilities.

Tom Crick, Director of Coaching and Athlete Development at Athletics NI

EDAC Club rooms, Tuesday 20th October 2015 from 7:30-9:00pm

Please see below your invitation to this presentation. I think it will be a very informative night and will be of great interest to coaches, parents, volunteers and members.  Please let me know if you’re coming.

Dear Volunteer,

As you may have heard, on 1st July 2015 I took on the challenge of Director of Coaching and Athlete Development at Athletics NI. My role focuses on helping athletes to reach their potential by ensuring a transparent pathway exists from grassroots to high performance. A key part of this will be directly supporting clubs and coaches to help them meet their athletes’ needs.

With this in mind, I am very interested in hearing from clubs, officials, volunteers, coaches and athletes about what they think needs to happen to improve Athletics in Northern Ireland. I am particularly interested in hearing about:

  • The barriers you face while operating in Northern Ireland
  • The key areas you would like more support and resources to be focused on
  • The key topics you feel you need more advice on such as event technical knowledge, nutrition, strength and conditioning, annual planning, example sessions for young athletes etc.

You are cordially invited to attend a meeting to discuss these matters at East Down AC Club House (Gates prior to Downpatrick Farm & Garden Supplies Ltd), Ballydugan Industrial Estate, Ballydugan Road, Downpatrick, BT30 6DL on Tuesday 20th October 2015 from 7:30-9:00pm.

I hope very much that yourselves or someone from your club will be able to make it. Please RSVP by email to myself at tcrick@athleticsni.org.

Best regards,

Tom Crick
